Zeitgeist | Arte da Nova Berlim

The Ministry of Culture and Banco do Brasil present the exhibition Zeitgeist – Art of New Berlin, a show that brings to Brazil, for the first time, an overview of the respected artistic community that lives in the German capital, all part of a group born at the end of the Cold War. Marked by two World Wars and divided by the Wall for almost three decades, Berlin rose up from the ashes and reinvented itself. The improvised view from the 90’s and the contradictions that characterize the city created gradually a Zeitgeist – meaning a time spirit from which art, culture and human relations evolve. This movement projects today its influence beyond Central Europe and attracts artists from all over the world like a magnet. Painting, photography, video art, performance, installations and Berlin’s famous club culture, through the vision of 29 contemporary artists, are part of the exhibition. Curated by Alfons Hug, the show will confront the Brazilian public with the artistic and cultural reality from a contradictory and fascinating Berlin, plural and diverse, that doesn’t understand limits when it comes to thinking, living and reinventing art. With this project, Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil promotes a debate and wants to reflect about art and culture’s reinvention, keeping our commitment to the public’s education, giving a meaning to our mission, which is “to be a market’s bank with a public spirit”.
